Frequently Asked Questions About 12 Inch Planters

Do these 12-inch pots come with drainage holes?

Yes, all of our 12-inch planter pots come with a drainage hole on the bottom. The hole will be between 0.5” and 1”, depending on the pot’s style.

What size saucer do I need for a 12-inch plant pot?

The saucer size you need depends on the planter’s bottom dimensions (since it is the bottom of the pot that fits on the surface of the saucer). A good rule of thumb is this: a saucer’s inside diameter should be 1-2 inches wider than the width of the bottom of the pot. A plant pot with a 12-inch diameter bottom will fit best with a saucer that has a 13” or 14” inner diameter.

Important: Dimensions listed on Ten Thousand Pots are generally for the top diameter–not the bottom diameter of the pot. If you aren’t sure what size saucer to get for a 12-inch planter you’re interested in, simply write us a message via our website’s chat option or email us at austin@tenthousandpots.com. We’ll get back to you with a recommendation that fits the specific pot you like.

How many gallons is a 12-inch flower pot?

A cylindrical 12 x 12 planter (one foot tall by one foot wide) holds about 5.9 gallons. However, keep in mind that the gallon capacity of a plant pot depends on its shape. Most 12-inch pots for plants featured here are not perfect cylinders.

How should I read the plant pot dimensions listed on your website?

The dimensions listed for our products should be read like this: the first two measurements indicate length and width (at the top of the pot’s mouth), and the last number is the height of the pot.

As an example, our smallest cana pot has the following dimensions: 12" x 12" x 13". This means that it has a 12” diameter (or 12” L x 12” W) and is 13” tall.

Note that the dimensions on our website are for the planter’s total measurements (inner and outer)–not just the inside of the pot.
