36 Inch Tall Planters

Yes, all of our 36 in. planters come with a drainage hole on the bottom. The hole will be about 1” wide.

The saucer size you need depends on the planter’s bottom dimensions (since it is the bottom of the pot that fits on the surface of the saucer). A good rule of thumb is this: a saucer’s inside diameter should be 1-2 inches wider than the width of the bottom of the pot.

Important: Dimensions listed on Ten Thousand Pots are generally for the top diameter–not the bottom diameter of the pot. A cylindrical 36 x 36 planter (a 3 ft. tall planter x 3 ft. wide) holds about 159 gallons. However, keep in mind that the gallon capacity of a plant pot depends on its shape. Most pots featured here are not perfect cylinders.

Additionally, this page features our 36-inch tall planters–and the diameter of these pots is considerably less than 3 feet across. For example, the largest size for our Slim Round Ceramic Planter is 36 inches high with a diameter of 20 inches. Based on these dimensions, its gallon capacity comes close to 49 gallons.

Read the dimensions listed for our products like this: the first two measurements indicate length and width (at the top of the pot’s mouth), and the last number is the height of the pot.

As an example, our Big Rim Ceramic Planter has the following dimensions: 22" x 22" x 36". This means that it has a 22” diameter (or 22” L x 22” W) and is 36” tall.

Note that the dimensions on our website are for the planter’s total measurements (inner and outer)–not just the inside of the pot.
